Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't I pin a note yet?
PinMe Note requires at least 2 people in the same room with the app open. Once a second person appears on the radar, pinning unlocks automatically.
When does the note unlock?
The note unlocks once the sender and recipient are 50+ feet apart. This is measured live by Ultra-Wideband ranging — not a timer. As soon as the two phones register that distance, the note opens.
Can I see who sent me a note?
No. Notes are anonymous by design. You will see the sender's chosen radar name, but that name is self-selected and not linked to any account, phone number, or real identity.
Does PinMe Note use my camera?
Camera access is listed in the app's permissions because it can be used by Apple's ARKit framework to improve the direction accuracy of UWB ranging (the arrow on the radar). The camera is never recorded, and its feed is never transmitted anywhere.
Does the app use the internet?
No. Notes travel directly between nearby iPhones over a local peer-to-peer connection (Multipeer Connectivity). No servers are involved. No internet connection is required.
What happens if I delete the app?
Your radar name and any received notes are stored in your device's Keychain. Deleting and reinstalling the app will clear them. A new random device ID is generated on reinstall.
Can I change my radar name?
Yes. Your radar name is set on the first launch onboarding screen. It is saved to your device and shared with people nearby. You can change it by reinstalling the app — in-app renaming is not yet supported.
My note was blocked. Why?
PinMe Note screens every outgoing note on-device before it sends. Notes are blocked if they contain identifying information (emails, phone numbers, links), meetup-arrangement language, explicit content, or hostile language. This runs entirely on your phone — the text is never seen by Red Static Studio.
The radar isn't showing people nearby. What do I do?
Make sure Local Network permission is granted in Settings → PinMe Note → Local Network. Both phones need the app open and on the same screen. If someone disappears from the radar, they may have locked their phone or moved too far away.
Does this work on iPad or older iPhones?
PinMe Note requires Ultra-Wideband hardware, which is available on iPhone 11 and newer. iPad and older iPhones are not supported.
